Why do I need an EV charger at home?

- Installing an EV charger at home is the most convenient and most cost effective way to charge your electric vehicle.

- With a 7kW electric vehicle charger installed at home you can take advantage of free power windows or cheap overnight tariffs (Ovo's EV plan will allow you to charge 42kWh into your battery for under $2).

- An electric vehicle charger installed by a professional is much safer than charging off a standard power circuit and extension lead.

- Charging at home eliminates the wait times of public charging stations and their higher electricity fees.

- You can start every day with a full battery.

- Integrating your EV charger with your solar panels can further reduce your carbon footprint.

What brand EV charger is best?

We try and match your EV charger to your solar or battery system, this allows for seamless integration.

If you don't have solar yet, or the inverter or battery manufacturer don't make EV chargers we like to use Myenergi Zappi. Zappis are easy to integrate with other brand inverters.

Other brands which we enjoy installing include Sigenergy, Tesla, Goodwe, EV Nex, Sungrow, Fronius, Wallbox and Ocular.

Most EV chargers come in 7kW (single phase) and 22kW (three phase) variants. Your car's on-board charger may also restrict it's charging capacity.

Can I install an EV charger at my home?

If your home has old ceramic fuses, you will need a switchboard upgrade prior to having an electric vehicle charger installed.

Most homes with ceramic fuses don't have over current protection on their mains. Adding an EV charger will increase the chances of overloading and burning out your mains.

If your home has old consumer mains, we recommend upgrading them prior to adding an electric vehicle charger.

Our EV charger installation process

- After receiving your enquiry one of our team will conduct a site assessment, inspecting your switchboard, mains capacity and EV charging requirements.

- Based on our site assessment, we will provide recommendations and a clear fixed price quote upfront.

- Installation can take anywhere from 2-3 hours to all day depending on the site and whether a switchboard upgrade is required. We aim to minimise disruption, however we will need the power off at some stages.

- Testing and commissioning using our Fluke FEV300 test equipment which simulates the presence of an electric vehicle.

- Handover and a demonstration if you have your electric vehicle already.
